Extended Family- a family composed of parents and children as well as other kin; also know as a consanguine family.
a. In the show Family Guy, the extended family of the Griffins is shown in many episodes and play a large part in their lives. The most important, as they are shown the most, extended family are Lois' parents the Pewterschmidts, who are rich business people.

Nuclear Family- a family composed of one or two parents and their children; also know as a conjugal family.
a. This Griffin family would be an excellent example of this term. They are the family the show is based around and are involved in every episode in some way.

Descent- the system by which members of a society trace kinship over generations.
a. There are a couple episodes in Family Guy that focus on this topic. One depicts Peter's ancestors as the founder of Quahog from England and others depict Peter having ancestors from Ireland. Each episode focuses on the Griffin family tree and ties in the family. (Season 7, Episode 16)

Religion- a social institution involving beliefs and practices based on recognizing the sacred.
a. Throughout the sitcom of Family Guy, many religions are displayed and many beliefs are discussed. The show also partly revolves around poking fun at different religions. Peter even creates his own religion praising the "Fonzie" and receives many followers.

Family- a social institution found in all societies that unites people in cooperative groups to care for one another, including any children.
a. The family that is by far the most shown in Family Guy is the Griffins. They are mostly a dysfunctional family that always makes fun of one another and put people down. None of the members of the family really fill their traditional role, but they are a family nonetheless.

Marriage- a legal relationship, usually involving economic cooperation, sexual activity, and childbearing.
a. Lois and Peter Griffin are the main married couple in the show. They have a legal relationship which involves economic cooperation and they have three kids together: Meg, Chris, and Stewie. They are clearly sexually active as Peter is often times frank about it and they have a pet dog named Brian.

Monogamy- marriage that unites two partners.
a. Lois and Peter's marriage would be an example of monogamy as they are faithful to one another and it's only those two in the partnership.

Faith- belief based on conviction rather than on scientific evidence.
a. Peter Griffin bases the majority of his claims on what he believes (for no apparent reason) instead of what he knows (which is minimal).
