Cause and Effect- a relationship in which change in one variable causes a change in another variable
a. In one episode, Peter challenges the gang to see who can drink clam chowder and last the longest. After they all drink, it doesn't take long for them to all throw up, besides Chris. This shows cause and effect as because they drank clam chowder, they threw up.

Experiment- a research method for investigating cause and effect under highly controlled conditions
a. Around the high school in Quahog, there's a new thing going around where the kids lick toads as a drug. Peter finds a toad in Chris' room and thinks that he is doing drugs so he confronts his son about this. During his discussion about the toad, Peter admits that he has experimented with drugs when he was younger and said they made him "freak out."

Stereotype- a simplified description applied to every person in some category
a.When Peter wishes to buy some meat, he takes Brian with him to go to the Italian-run meat shop. He stereotypes all Italians by saying that they all have mustaches and just because he finally grew one, he can now speak to them.

Race-Conflict Approach- a point of view that focuses on inequality and conflict between people of different racial and ethnic categories
a. Throughout the show, "Kermit the Frog" makes a few appearances. He is known for being racist and raising a conflict with every minority that cross his path. In one episode, an African-American is rowing a boat through a river when he sees Kermit the Frog. He asks him if he knows the way and Kermit the Frog says, "Yeah back from where you came (as he pulls out a shotgun in a racist manner)."

Latent Functions- the unrecognized and unintended consequences of any social pattern.
a. Lantent Functions are seen when Stewie is put in a daycare by Lois. He then proceeds to meet a girl there and believes he has fallen in love. The rest of the epidsode he can't stop thinking of her.

Interpretive Sociology- the study of society that focuses on discovering the meanings people attach to their social world.
a. This theory of sociology can be seen by the strong connection between Stewie and his teddy bear Rupert. One could analyze Stewie's meaning of Rupert as a friend throughout the show. The connection is strong, especially when Stewie loses Rupert for a few epidsodes.

Critical Sociology- the study of society that focuses on the need for social change.
a. In Family Guy, Brian expresses thinking related to critical sociology. For example, he stands up to Lois spedning taxpayers dollars when she's mayor and he also makes a stand in the park to legalize pot.

Androcentricity- "focus on the male", approaching an issue from a male perspective.
a. The entire show is based on this term, as nearly every episode is seen from Peter's perspective. He also has the final say in most decisions even if they aren't the wisest.

Peter Griffin: the show revolves around him and many decisions are influenced from his perspective.
